Design Objective:
Create an extensive icon system for an informational poster on a chosen subject beginning with thumbnail ideation, followed by refined digital icons and a formal style guide. Icons must be consistent, scalable, and visually unified.
Design Brief:
This infographic poster was developed around the theme of sci-fi movies, using a custom icon system to represent key characters and elements from each film. Primary icons were created based on recognizable characters such as Neytiri, Neo, Cobb, Brand, and Curtis, while secondary icons highlight symbolic objects from their stories. The goal was to translate each movie into simplified forms that are easy to recognize and understand at a glance. The layout emphasizes clear organization, using consistent sizing and structure across the primary icons to create unity and balance. Secondary icons were designed with more variation to represent specific details tied to each film. Tools such as the pen tool and shape builder in Illustrator were used to construct the icons with precision. Problem-solving during the process, such as creating more complex shapes like the black hole and character details, helped strengthen both technical and design skills.
